CORAL - Communities Organizing Resources to Advance Learning

What is CORAL?
CORAL is dedicated to advancing literacy skills among local elementary school students. The overall goal is to help those students who are not reading at the correct grade level to catch-up and become strong readers. To accomplish this, CORAL focuses on The 100 Book Challenge along with other enrichment activities that have literacy components.

CORAL is open to students in grades K-6 who live or attend school in the target neighborhoods of Meadowview and the North Sacramento School District. Program space is limited and each site has separate criteria for filling from the waiting list. Preference is given to students who live in the neighborhoods directly adjacent to each site. Students do not necessarily need to attend a particular school to attend that school’s CORAL program.

CORAL also wants families and community members to be involved in significant ways – by attending workshops and classes, leading activities for kids, and helping to make program decisions during monthly public meetings. Ultimately, each CORAL site aims to develop into a center for community activity, a place where everyone in the neighborhood can come together to support children and their academic achievement.

CORAL is run in partnership between the Center for Fathers and Families and the Sacramento Children's Home
